How to opt in existing clients (bulk and individual)

How to collect marketing SMS authorization from existing clients — individually, via mass text or email campaign, by recording existing consent, or through bulk authorization.

MoeGo tracks whether each client has authorized marketing campaigns through their authorization status. For clients who were in your system before compliance launched, this status starts as Incomplete — they haven't been asked to authorize yet.

For authorization methods that happen automatically at booking time, see How to get client authorization →

About the transition period

📢 The compliance transition period has been extended with no fixed end date.

  • Marketing SMS continue sending for all clients during the transition period — including those with incomplete authorization status.

  • There will be no automatic opt-out until MoeGo confirms that a sufficient level of consent adoption has been reached.

  • Collecting authorization gradually — especially when clients are already in contact with your business — helps ensure a smooth transition when the period eventually closes.

Option 1: Send an individual opt-in invitation

The most straightforward way to collect authorization from an existing client is to send them a one-time SMS opt-in invitation directly from their profile.

  1. Go to the client's profile.

  2. Find the authorization status banner near the top of the profile.

  3. Click Complete Authorization.

  4. Select Send opt-in invitation via SMS and click Send SMS.

The client receives a one-time SMS with a link to review and confirm their notification preferences. Once they submit, their authorization status updates to Complete automatically.

📝 Note: The opt-in invitation SMS is an auto message — it does not use SMS credits for Ultimate plan users.

Option 2: Include the consent link in a mass text or email campaign

To reach multiple clients at once, include the marketing consent link variable in a mass text or email campaign. Clients who click the link and confirm their preferences will be authorized automatically.

To use the consent link in a mass text:

  1. Go to Message Center > Mass Text.

  2. Compose your message and insert the marketing consent link variable where you'd like the link to appear.

  3. Send to your selected client list.

To use the consent link in an email campaign:

  1. Go to Marketing > Email Campaigns.

  2. Compose your email and insert the marketing consent link variable in the body.

  3. Send to your selected client list.

💡 Tip: The consent link is tied to each individual client's profile — it works correctly when sent to real clients via mass text or email campaign. It will not work in test mode or when sent to yourself.

⚠️ Important: Only use mass text to send the consent link if you have a reasonable basis to believe clients are willing to receive it. If you're unsure, email campaigns are the lower-risk option since email marketing does not require prior SMS authorization.

Option 3: Record existing written consent manually

If you already have documented authorization from a client — such as a signed paper form, a waiver, or a previous agreement — you can record this directly in MoeGo without sending an invitation.

  1. Go to the client's profile.

  2. Find the authorization status banner and click Complete Authorization.

  3. Select Obtain written consent.

  4. (Optional) Upload your authorization record — supported formats: .csv, .xls, .xlsx.

  5. Click Complete.

Once saved, the authorization status updates to Complete.

📝 Note: Uploading a document is optional. If you have consent records stored outside MoeGo, you don't need to upload them — but keeping them on file is recommended in case verification is needed later.

⚠️ Important: Only use this option if you genuinely have the client's documented consent. Recording authorization without actual consent puts your business at risk.

Option 4: Bulk authorization (for large client lists)

If you have already collected valid consent from a large number of clients — for example, through signed agreements managed outside MoeGo — bulk authorization may be available for your business.

How it works:

  • A DocuSign agreement with MoeGo must be signed before any bulk update can be processed.

  • Once the agreement is completed, MoeGo's team will bulk update the authorization status on your behalf.

To get started, contact our Support team. We'll review your situation and guide you through the process.

How to confirm authorization is complete

After any of the above options, you can confirm the client's status in Client profile > Settings: The authorization status will show Authorization Complete.
